Two months after Hurrican Ike strikes Galveston, Texas, the island is open to the public, and few main streets we drove on where clear and the median clean.  The I-45 median was still covered in debris in places and a large boat aground in the marsh on the bay side.  Piers were gone and some lots are vacant.  Residences behind the seawall business were still in need of repair, lawns cleaned but still with bits of debris.  The small business at the east end in front of the seawall were washed away, leaving only broken foundations and rubble.
